Whether active player, new to it all, or enjoyed the game half a life-time ago: The OBA is here to help you get started.
I’m interested in having a go, and have never played before. I don’t have shuttles or a racquet.
The best place to start is to come along to the Beginner Adults night running Mondays 7-8:30pm at the Otago Badminton Centre. Shuttles and rackets will be provided, see the ‘Clubs’ tab for more details.
I’ve got the gear and people to play with, I just want to book a court.
Courts at the Otago Badminton Centre are available to book for private
use, even if you’re only a visitor to the town. Simply create a profile in out Hello Club
platform, and choose wither Casual, Community, or Full membership, different
membership fees and court rates apply, for more information see
(https://badmintonotago.org.nz/otago-badminton-centre-booking-system/)
I would like some coaching sessions
If you would like to start with coaching sessions – great idea! See here for contact details of coaches in Otago.
I’ve played before and want to compete socially or competitively
Club nights or games nights are for you! For more information inquire at club nights and
keep on eye on our facebook page for details of upcoming
competitions and social games nights.
I’m an experienced player looking to represent Otago.
Badminton Otago have senior representative teams as well as Masters, Vets and Super
Vet representative teams. To represent Otago you must be an affiliated member of
Badminton Otago. The pathway into the senior team teams is via attending senior rep
trials (held at the start of the season, see Facebook and website news posts for details).
To represent Otago in Masters, Vets etc, please go along to the Masters Sunday night
(see ‘Club’ tab) and ask there for further information.
I want to play in local and regional competitive tournaments
Any player affiliated to Badminton New Zealand (e.g. via Badminton Otago affiliation) can enter tournaments run by badminton associations throughout the country, including those run by Badminton Otago. Keep an eye of the OBA Facebook page and website for details on when these tournaments are and closing dates to enter.
