You may like to contact the clubs directly to find out how they manage memberships. See links above for contact details.
Will cardholders that aren’t club members now be charged $20 per hour?
Yes. We would love for you to join a club. The annual card fee of $20 has been waived for the coming year, so at an approximate cost of $100 to join a club for an adult (check details with clubs), you only need to play for 8 hours a year to make joining worthwhile! If you join, your current rate of $12 will drop to $10 – and we think that’s a pretty good deal. Most clubs will offer payment plans if it’s the $100 one-off payment that worries you. Juniors, families and couples enjoy discounts at most clubs, too.
How do I prove to you that I am a club member?
Just tell us. We’re polling the clubs for their members’ list regularly, starting next week. If you’re not on the list, we bump you up to the $20 rate.
Who has to be a club member?
As a member of the public you can continue to use the hall as a casual user by getting your one-off card at the dairy, you don’t have to be a member (but we’re encouraging you!). However, if you’re playing in any OBA event, such as A Pool, Box Competition or are representing Otago at Junior, Senior or Masters level, you need to belong to a club.
I am not a club member and don’t want to join. I used to pay $12 per hour and now it’s $20. I just added money to my card last week! Can I use this up at the old rate?
No. We have reserved the right to change the prices at any time and the ‘currency’ added to your card is dollars – not court hours. You have three options: Use the credit at the new $20 rate, become a club member and use it at the $10 rate, or transfer your credit to someone else’s card and walk away with the cash.
Can I get a refund for the admin fee I paid last year?
No, we’re not refunding the admin fee that was last charged in June 2011, but we’ve decided to waive it for 2012. It is effectively included in the club fee when you join up.
I usually play with a bunch of friends and we’re using three courts at a time. We have one card between all of us, what’s our rate?
If you don’t join a club, your rate will be $20 per hour and you can book multiple courts at a time. If one of you joins a club, the rate will drop to $10, but you’ll only be able to book one court at a time.
You may be better off for three of your group to join a club, to effectively get three cards and be able to book three courts at $10 at once. Talk to the clubs!
Note that we can give you three cards that link all to the same account so that you don’t have to keep track of three different card balances.

Hi all,
The Junior Badminton Committee has been in contact with its Southland counter parts with the idea to arrange a regular (twice yearly) Friendly Match between our Juniors and theirs. The first to be in Southland. Then a return match in Otago later in the year.
The motivation behind arranging this friendly is to do two main things:
1. Give our Junior teams and top players a good workout before the South Islands and other individual tournaments and
2. Equally importantly, give our up and coming Junior players who were unlucky not to make a team this year an opportunity to get involved with the Otago team setup and get some good experience for next year.
How will it work.
Players will be put into teams, which will be graded on ability (not necessarily age). Selected U15 & U17 teams would be kept together were possible, depending on availability.
The emphasis is that teams will be playing against teams of as close to similar ability as practical. Southland will grade their players/teams along with Otago, and then these teams would play off against each other, i.e Southland team 1 Vs Otago team 1. Southland team 2 Vs Otago team 2, and so on.
The format would be similar to the successful Masters Cadbury Cup. Which is, that the winner on the day is the Provence who win the most games. (not tie’s)
It will be a very fun day, with a little rivalry mixed in. Specially between the more competitive players. Southland are a very hospitable Provence and will make our Juniors feel very welcome. They usually put on a very nice afternoon tea before the Masters head home, and I am sure they would do something similar for the Juniors.
Playing time.
Games would start on Sunday, July 1 around 11am and finish around 3pm~ish depending on player numbers.
Transport.
The Masters car pool down to Southland, but if we get enough interested players we will look at hiring a bus.
Cost.
This is yet to be discussed by the Junior committee, but if car pooling, it will be some petrol money. if we bus down, it will have to be more cost effective than cars. The Junior Committee will discuss if there are any other costs, but these will be minimal if any.
For this to be a success, Otago need to put as many players as possible on the court. To do this we need your support. The first task is to quickly put together a list of keen players so we can decide if we should hire a bus, and so we have time to work out the teams.
If you are interested in participating, can you please contact me as soon as possible. Final date for registering interest will be the 4th May.
If you have any questions, please contact me ether via email, or call me on 027 2770963.
Regards
Ward Kellett

Enquiries to zn.oc.artxnull@ttameus
Jeff, the coaches, and some senior players have been discussing the pros and cons of a separate matchplay night for senior rep players and have come up with the following proposal:
Let’s run a five team competition, consisting of 2 men and 2 ladies in each team on a Wednesday night or weekend day, starting next week.
We currently have approximately 14 ladies and 16 blokes on file, with hopefully university players joining in. This format gives each team a bye and gives the organisers some spare players to avoid defaults. See other details below.
