Badminton is a great game for kids, and a great game for families!
We’ve got the gear, I just want to take my children for a hit.
If in Dunedin, the Otago Badminton Centre is available to you 24/7, even if you’re only a visitor to the town. Simply apply for your own access and lighting card and away you go.. See here for more information.
My children are a bit older, and I’d like to learn how to play with them.
Many club nights welcome families and players of all ages. The winter club night season runs from April to September/October, see the ‘Clubs’ tab for information of where and when. Shuttles are provided and some clubs also have rackets available.
I’d like to get some coaching for my children
Start with coaching sessions to learn the right tricks from the get-go! See here for contact details of coaches in Otago available for private sessions. Children from the Friday night Shuttle Time sessions (see ‘Clubs’ tab and below) can move into Otago Junior Badminton Representative Squads (U13, U15, U17, U19 age brackets), and from here be part of squad training/coaching and selection into Regional and National teams.
For more information contact zn.gro.ogatonotnimdabnull@sroinuj.
My children just want to have a go.
Try the Friday night Shuttle Time program during school term (ages 5-13) or the Friday night Mosgiel Junior Badminton Club (ages 8-18, terms 2 and 3). See the ‘Clubs’ tab for more details.
My children want to enter local competitions
Throughout the year there are local and regional Individual age group championships that any player affiliated to Badminton New Zealand (e.g. via affiliation to badminton Otago) can enter. For more information keep an eye on the Facebook page, or email zn.gro.ogatonotnimdabnull@sroinuj.
