2016 Brooke Cup: Results

Congratulations to everyone who took part in Brooke Cup on Sunday March 20th, it was a great day and excellent to see so many people at the Hall.

The winner of the Brooke cup was Otago, with Otago winning more matches than Southland across all the age groups. Results in full can be seen here (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=16CD9AED-FB3C-4E4D-B21B-3325C02012DE&d=20160320).

2015 Masters Tournaments Information Update

Link

Hi everyone.

Some updated information about this season’s Masters tournaments.

For those who ordered t-shirts – they have now been ordered from the supplier & should be delivered in Dunedin this week or nearly next week.  Then I’ll take them to the embroiderer & we should have them a week later.

First tournament is the Southland tie of the Cadbury Cup for 40+ players only.  This is on Sunday May 17th and we hope to enter 3 full teams plus men for the Men’s doubles competition.    (4 men/4 ladies per team)

Next is South Island Masters Badminton in Timaru at Queen’s Birthday weekend.  (35+)  (29 May – 1 June)  I already asked about this earlier as we had to get a feeling for numbers & start booking accommodation.  Otago has now entered 3 teams for this weekend.  (4 men/4 ladies per team)

The Dunedin hosted Cadbury Cup  tie is on Sunday 28th June.

On Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th August Southland are hosting their annual Southland Masters tournament.  We are warmly invited to enter teams and/or pairs for doubles/mixed and possible singles for the keen beans.  You get together with others and enter accordingly into age brackets.

South Island Vets is Sat 15th & Sunday 16th August  (50+) and we have entered 2 teams so far with a view to adding one if we can find enough players.  (3 men/3 ladies per team)

Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September is our Otago Masters tournament.  Similar to above.  Southland and Otago will provide more info closer to the time but mark these in your diaries if you are interested.  They will both be fun weekends.

South Island Masters Games are in Nelson this year and badminton is being played on Sunday 27th & Monday 28th of September.  This is a great opportunity to play badminton in a different location.  The Badminton Hall in Richmond is a nice venue and it’s a lot of fun.  Talk to some others in (or close to) your age bracket and enter the doubles, mixed and teams events.  http://www.simasters.co.nz/

For anyone interested in the Canterbury Masters open doubles & mixed doubles – they are held in July.  They incorporate these into their Sunday evening masters so they start at 5pm.  Not easy for us down here but if you are in the area put these dates in your diary.  Doubles – Sunday July 19th & mixed – Sunday July 26th. More information will be sent at some stage.

Many people have indicated availability for the Cadbury Cup & SI Masters & Vets.  If you haven’t yet & are available and would like to be considered for a team for any of these, please let me know ASAP.  Email reply or text 0210786999 is the best method.

Any questions – just ask myself  0210786999 Bronwyn   moc.liamgnull@notgninneb.nywnorb  or Ah-Lek    moc.sreillocnull@yat.kel-ha   0274360767

If you would like to be removed from the Otago Masters Register – please reply to moc.liamgnull@notgninneb.nywnorb  & let me know.

Looking forward to a fun season on the courts!!

Thanks everyone

Bronwyn

Cadbury Cup teams named

We’re ready forCadbury Cup – a Masters event played over Queens Birthday weekend in Invercargill.

Thank you to everyone who made themselves available. A bit of background for those who haven’t played before:

The Cadbury Cup and the Johnny Philp Trophy are played on a home and away basis. It is the collective score at the end of both ties that counts.
We are start in Invercargill at 10:30 am. The trip down is about 2 hours 30 minutes so departure time is 8 am. Transport is via carpools, so find some to give you a lift or offer. It is customary to give the driver money for petrol. There is no other cost except for your own needs, food and drink mainly.
It is probably best to travel down in your playing gear. This ensures you have most of your gear when you get there. Once at the stadium, get moving and warm up. This involves a lot of moving! Once warm, stretch! It is best to work with your team and encourage each other. There will be plenty of time at the end for talking and socialising at the end.
Team Captains should get sheets and court allocations and then direct the team to the right courts for a hit up. Use two shuttles in pairs as this is more effective than using one between four.
Games will commence when all are ready. Convention dictates we play doubles first for the bottom combination up. Mixed is played after the doubles.
Please umpire games and if not playing or umpiring support your team members.
When the tie is finished, showers are available so a change of clothing is suggested. Casual dress for a comfortable trip back to Dunedin is suggested. A light meal will be provided at the end of the tie by the Southland team and this is usually a very good feed.
Historically we should be back in town by 7 pm.
Lunch, this is on the run. You need to bring food to keep you going till about 3 pm and play at your best. Also you will need sufficient liquid to keep you hydrated also.
We hope this note answers all the questions but if you need more info or help sorting transport, please ask Ah-Lek or the old hands, Ken Lawson, Bronwyn Bennington, Ward Kellet or Jim Hoffman.
