Otago Badminton Association seeks Treasurer
We are seeking a Treasurer to serve as a volunteer on the OBA Management Committee and be part of the Executive group. Management meetings are monthly. Executive group meetings are held as needed.
The role of the Treasurer is vital to our organisation and we are on the lookout for the right person to fill our current vacant treasurer role.
The position requires financial expertise as well as dedication, leadership and an understanding of financial accounting for ‘not for profit’ organisations.
As Treasurer you will:
- Take ownership and drive the financial strategy of the organisation with your valuable experience in financial administration/management.
- Be a leader assisting with the direction of the organisation through its new strategic initiatives. (please see OBA Strategic Plan)
- You will have a strong understanding of the roles individuals play within a team to meet the goals of the organisation.
- Have previous experience with Xero or the ability to pick up and adapt to new accounting software.
Responsibilities include:
- Take ownership and drive the financial strategy of the organisation.
- Financial administration including ensuring bank account(s) reconciled and creditor payments approved on a monthly basis.
- Financial management including preparation of monthly reports to the Management Committee.
- Preparation of Annual Budget with input from Management Committee.
- Calculation & filing of IRD GST return on a 6 monthly payments basis.
- Preparation of Annual Financial Statements and liaison with external auditor.
- Provide funding advice to the funding and grants committee.
What the OBA is offering the right person:
- Full training from the previous Treasurer will be provided.
- Experience in working with a ‘not for profit’ regional sporting organisation.
- Position on the OBA executive group.
- Professional development and training in ‘not for profit’ governance management is offered and encouraged.
- Expenses for courses, travel and/or accommodation are covered by OBA.

Green Island Club 60th Jubilee Planning for 2016
Here are some further details of the Green Island 60th Jubilee in the planning for 2016:

2015 Otago Masters Open – Entry Closing Date 3 September
Tournament Dates:
Saturday 5 September 1pm : Doubles (Mens and Womens)
Sunday 6 September 9:30am : Mixed Doubles
All players 35 years & over are welcome to find a Mixed and / or Doubles partner and enter. $20 per event.
3 Divisions: Enter in the division as per 2015 South Island Masters in Timaru on Queen’s Birthday or if you didn’t play then, a division can be assigned to you.

National Div 3 Finals in Dunedin – Not to be missed top National Badminton Event
Be there for a Badminton Feast:
Mark your calendar for top notch badminton and to support our Otago Top Seniors Team – winners of South Island Div 3 vie with North Island winners Waitakere 3 – for promotion to Div 2. Admission is free.
Some of the notable Northlanders coming include Nick Hall (45) and Dan Shirley (36), both multiple medals winners at the Commonwealth games including in Mixed Doubles. Gabby Aves, sister of Dan, ex-NZ representative player and as recently as 2011 won the Manukau International.

Green Island Badminton Club 60th Jubilee Planning meeting Notice
Come Year 2016, The Green Island Badminton Club would be turning 60 years in continuous existence and will be celebrating their 60th Jubilee.
In preparation for that, a Public Meeting is called – particularly for Past & Present Members – to form a Jubilee Committee.
