Badminton New Zealand is pleased to announce the launch of a new sport Speed Badminton and announce its partnership with Speedminton NZ.

Speedminton is an outdoor sport that offers a fast, anytime, anywhere version of badminton. Speedminton is played with a plastic shuttle called a Speeder which can travel up to 297 Km/hr and can easily cope with the outdoors and any breeze / wind.

Speedminton can either be played using two squares which act as the court, or with no court and no net in sight.

Badminton New Zealand has entered into this partnership as a mechanism for growing our sport. It is anticipated that the outdoor version of the game will inspire people to play the traditional game and head indoors to clubs and associations. Speedminton offers an Anywhere – Anytime version of badminton, which will reach into the wider community and makes takes badminton to the beach, lake, park or anywhere.

Speed Badminton is NZ is run by Speedminton NZ (trading as Tightlines) and they are taking full financial responsibility for the promotion, sale and distribution of the equipment. Badminton New Zealand has endorsed this new sport as it not feels that it will blend with the traditional game well but also offers the potential to grow our game.

Through this partnership approach, Badminton New Zealand will be receiving financial reward with these details still being finalised.

Badminton New Zealand and Speedminton, launched Speed Badminton yesterday at Hamilton Boys High. The launch was attended by the media and TV One News film crews.
