Hi everyone,
Here is some information regarding 2015 Otago senior (open age) badminton and the plan for this year. This includes info on training times, team selection, and tournament dates.
Player training Monday March 16 and March 23. 6.30-8pm. Anyone welcome to attend, $10 per player per night, cash to be paid on the night. Coaches and selectors for both senior teams are Jim and Leo.
Brooke Cup – Sat March 28, Invercargill, day trip. Friendly game against Southland 1. 4-5 woman and 4-5 men travel. We will organise who this is on March 23, volunteer/self-selection or lucky dip if a lot of people are interested, playing in this will not influence Otago rep selection.
Player training Monday April 13 and April 20 6.30-8pm. Anyone welcome to attend, $10 per night.
Week of April 20 – Otago 1 and Otago 2 rep teams selected.
April 27, May 4, June 8, 15, 29, July 6, 13, 6.30-8pm (7 training sessions). Only Otago 1 and Otago 2 rep teams can attend, FREE for these players.
If we make the NZ Div 3 final, then July 27, Aug 10, 17, 24, 6.30-8pm (4 training sessions). Only Otago 1, FREE for these players.
To be selected in the Otago 1 or Otago 2 rep team, you MUST be able to commit to the following events –
Saturday May 9th, Div 3 south island teams event, day event (either in Invercargill or Dunedin).
Saturday July 18th, Div 3 south island teams event, likely in Christchurch, travel on Friday afternoon, stay Friday night in Christchurch. Players fund their own accommodation and share of car pool petrol. Likely to be around $40 for accom (shared motel unit), and petrol depends on driver and style (?!)
Only for Otago 1, Neill Cup, Christchurch, Sat Aug 2. Again travel on the Friday, pay for your own accom and petrol costs.
Only for Otago 1, div 3 final if win the south island competition, Sat Aug 29, if we’re in it will be played in Dunedin (yay!)
Once selected in the squad you must attend all the Monday training sessions, unless otherwise agreed by the coaches.
You must play (or at least be on the reserve list for) an A grade interclub team. Dates still to be confirmed, it will only be held during University lecture/term time, and it will be on a Wednesday night starting 7pm. Last year this was a 6 week block May to mid June, and then a second block mid July to mid Aug. In the weeks that interclub is not on we may run another training session Wednesday night instead, this is tba.
To play for Otago you must be affiliated to the OBA through a club. If you need any information on this then please email me via zn.gro.ogatonotnimdabnull@reciffo-ved or have a look at the clubs on the OBA website.
During the year there will be opportunities to help with fundraising activities to cover/subsidise player travel costs.
Please email me via zn.gro.ogatonotnimdabnull@reciffo-ved if you intend on coming along to the Monday sessions in March, and pass this email on to others that may be interested in rep baddy this year.
Thanks,
Andrea Vernall
